The Alamar Knot is tied in traditional lead or tie ropes (hair ropes) and allows the rope length to be carried comfortably around the horse’s neck. It is only used when a horse is "straight up in the bridle". It reflects the knowledge and skill of both horse and rider and performs the function of being a lead or tie rope when the rider dismounts as a bridle horse is never led or tied by the reins. Both decorative and functional, frequently used in early "Californio" days by vaqueros as a sign of respect.

While reviewing the dozens of photographs I had taken one day of this filly, I realized she was executing every maneuver found in cutting, reining and the working cow horse world.... at random, during playtime. Here she was at 1 month old showing off her natural ability. What a painting concept! Showing how good breeding and natural ability combined can be so evident at such an early age.
